Maun abattoir to be privatized

The Maun Abattoir, which has been closed for some time now, is to be sold to interested private investors, Parliament has been told.

Presenting budget estimates for his ministry, Agriculture Minister Johnnie Swartz said in the event that the facility fails to get a buyer, government would lease it out to the highest bidder.

Other issues the minister raised were the review of the Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) Act and the continued implementation of the recommendations of the Irish Development International (IDI) consultants.
