Prominent Gaborone-based lawyer, Dick Bayford has been roped in in an effort to secure the release of the ruling party's Lobatse legislator, Thapelo Matsheka, who is in the custody of the Directorate of Intelligence and Security (DIS).

Matsheka, the former Finance minister, was among three prominent individuals arrested this week by the DIS. Others are Peleng East councillor, Ontiretse Mosimanewamacha and businessman, Thuso Mantsi, who were arrested following speculation that they are being questioned in connection with the death of primary school pupil, Tlotso Karema.

By yesterday evening, Bayford was yet to know what his client was being held for at the notorious DIS cells in Sebele, just outside the capital city, Gaborone. As it is, the process of taking the matter to court, according to Bayford, has commenced. He was not at liberty to say anything yet but confirmed having been instructed by Matsheka to act.
