The Assistant Minister of Health and Molepolole North MP Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri sought protection from the customary court in respect of media coverage of his case last week. Matlhabaphiri, who appeared before the Molepolole Kgotla accused of marriage wrecking, decried that the media has dragged his name in the mud ever since the allegations cropped up.

He said the media has disregarded the impact of its stories on his family. He said he was disheartened by the media's emphasis that he is an Assistant Minister of Health who is also championing the safe male circumcision campaign, when reporting the case.  The Ministry of Health has embarked on a nation-wide campaign to encourage safe male circumcision, as one of the tools to curb the spread of HIV.  Kgosi Michael Gaborone, who presided over the case, asked the media present to be considerate when covering the case. When given a chance to interrogate complainant Simon Tafi, Matlhabaphiri's asked Tafi if his wife would testify before the court about her alleged affair, to which Tafi said he did not know.

The assistant minister then asked Tafi to reveal the number he had called him (Matlhabaphiri) on when confronting him about the alleged affair, at which the complainant said that he did not remember the number. Next the MP asked the complainant his estranged wife's whereabouts and whether she would testify on his behalf.  Tafi said he didn't know where his wife was as they have since separated, he said he doubted she would testify for him as she has taken the minister's side from the beginning. Tafi confessed that he jumped into the minister's yard to physically remove his wife from there.
