Matambo vows to prove his innocence

Minister of Finance and Development Planning Kenneth Matambo yesterday made his first court appearance on charges of graft, vowing he would prove his innocence.

At the arraignment hearing in Gaborone, Matambo acknowledged that he understood the charges against him.

The second cabinet minister in less than a year to face criminal charges in court, he is scheduled to enter a plea later next month. Matambo, who has resisted pressure to step down from his post confirmed to the presiding magistrate Lenah Mokibe-Oahile that he is currently the Minister of Finance and Development Planning.
