Matambo can't quit over 'trumped-up charges' - Tafa

The Minister of Finance and Development Planning Kenneth Matambo will not resign because there is no case against him, the court heard.

Matambo's legal counsel Parks Tafa, told Gaborone Chief Magistrate Lenah Oahile-Mokibe that their client cannot resign his Cabinet post because of the "malicious and trumped-up charges" that the state cannot substantiate.

Tafa's averments come amid clashes with the prosecutors after the state could not provide them with further particularities. Tafa accused the state of somersaulting on their previous agreement in which he said the state undertook to provide further particularities. When the state held a different view from that of the defence, Tafa ran short of accusing the state of having a hidden agenda against Matambo. He told the court that further particularities they are seeking would go a long way in helping them prepare for their case.
