Matambo accused of ignoring LCW workers

While government is pumping millions of Pula into poverty eradication schemes, people continue to lose jobs at parastatals.

Just recently, the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Kenneth Matambo, allegedly ignored a plea by over 35 employees of Lobatse Clay Works (LCW) who were retrenched to make way for the company's former employees who had themselves been retrenched earlier.

The company is a subsidiary of Botswana Development Corporation (BDC), the government's investment arm that falls under Matambo's ministry.  Employees of LCW who spoke on condition of anonymity told Mmegi that when they sought Matambo to intervene to save their jobs, he ignored them, saying only that he would communicate with the management of BDC.
