In the past few weeks, Masitara’s candidature has been shrouded in controversy following the demand by some of his council candidates that he be recalled.
His detractors had written and held meeting with the BDP central committee to seek a new parliamentary candidate after the legislator had ‘joked’ that he was going to Canada and would return two weeks before the general elections in October.
While it is widely acknowledged that Khama holds the title of Kgosi, the government’s failure to properly gazette his recognition has raised serious concerns about adherence to legal procedures and the credibility of traditional leadership.
