Masisi runs for dear life as talks collapse

Talks between representatives of the Botswana Federation of Public Service Unions (BOFEPUSU) and the government collapsed yesterday after government said it would only offer three percent increment without conditions.

The unions had indicated that they would accept the three percent offer on condition that dismissed workers were re-instated, the No Work No Pay is waivered and the offer is distributed in a pyramid form. The unions requested for an adjournment until next Wednesday and the strike will continue, BOFEPUSU publicity secretary Goretetse Kekgonegile told Mmegi yesterday.

Meanwhile presidential affairs minister Mokgweetsi Masisi, assistant education minister Keletso Rakhudu and mayor Veronica Lesole had to be whisked out of a failed evening meeting in Gaborone West where the former (Masisi) was heckled when he told the angry parents and workers that, "the talks collapsed because government did not agree to the terms".  Masisi's statement threw a fully packed Gaborone West hall into an angry body mass of people. Efforts to try to calm down the people were futile as they chanted slogans like "Regime Change!" and songs like "We would rather be led by Mugabe or Gaddafi than this (Khama) administration".
