Masire's nightmare with contractors

The Commander of the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) Lieutenant General Tebogo Masire has revealed his frustrations with the difficulty government departments face when attempting to terminate contracts with construction companies.

"Terminating government contracts with contractors is such a difficult process - in fact it's a nightmare, as it is a long process that involves a number of stakeholders like the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Board (PPADB) and others who sometimes say the parties should go back and discuss their differences," he testified before the parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) yesterday. 

Masire related at the PAC proceedings, which are being held in public for the first time, how some contractors have to be chased around to complete their work, and in some instances cannot find time to collect their monies.
