Marina allows patients to bring own blankets

Government's number one referral hospital may be defeating efforts to control infectious diseases, with its stance to allow patients to check in with their own blankets to keep themselves warm during the chilly nights since the hospital does not have enough blankets or an adequate heating system.

"We do admit there is a shortage of blankets at Princess Marina Hospital, especially with the winter season having started.

It is not policy for patients to bring their own blankets because of issues of infection control," said Marina Hospital spokesperson, Kagiso Motsumi. She was responding to The Monitor questionnaire, which was prompted by observation at Marina Hospital, where patients have been bringing their own blankets to keep warm.
