Letter of condolence by President, Ian Khama, to the President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, on the occasion of the death of Nelson Mandela

It is with profound grief that I received the sad news of the passing away of Former President Nelson Mandela.


On behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Botswana and indeed on my own behalf, I wish to convey to you and through you to the Government and people of the Republic of South Africa, our deepest sympathies and most heartfelt condolences. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, and in particular, the Mandela family.

Former President Mandela, Madiba, was indeed a remarkable figure. His consummate belief and steadfast commitment to the fundamental principles of liberty, justice and equality was immense. His strong moral standing and deep intolerance for human suffering of any kind, was and will, continue to be inspirational.
