Man rapes 5-year-old

PALAPYE: Police in Letlhakane have arrested a 23-year-old man who hails from Mmatshumu Village for raping a five-year-old girl.

The incident happened on Sunday. The girl has been referred to Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital (NRH) for further medical attention. The suspect was reportedly caught red handed in a bush at the village. 

According to Letlhakane police station commander superintendent Michael Maphephu the suspect allegedly found children playing late afternoon and dragged the girl into the bush where he raped her. The other children rushed home to report the incident 

The parents of the victim are said to have rushed to the scene where they found the suspect raping the child. They later reported the matter to the police, and the suspect was subsequently arrested at the scene of crime. 

Both the assailant and the suspect were taken to Letlhakane Primary Hospital for medical examinations. The Doctors confirmed the suspect had sexually assaulted the minor and she was referred to Nyangabgwe Hospital in a bad state.

“We have detained the suspect, and he will appear before court soon. The girl is still at Nyangabgwe Hospital where she is receiving medical attention,” Maphephu said.
