Man in trouble for disrupting minister's rally

FRANCISTOWN: A youthful man spent the weekend in jail for allegedly disrupting a political rally convened by the Minister of Justice, Defence and Security, Phandu Skelemani, at the Methodist Freedom Square in Area W (Francistown).

It is said Motshabi broke a beer bottle at the rally and when confronted, he ran away but the police caught up with him. "The accused person has been charged with common nuisance. If found guilty, he is liable to be sentenced to a prison term not exceeding one year," said Ntile. He disclosed that Motshabi would be tried next Thursday. He is said to have mentioned to the police that he did not understand why he behaved so awkwardly on the fateful day.

Ntile did not want to comment on the allegations that the accused hurled base insults at Skelemani. Some people who attended the dramatic rally said Motshabi came to the rally drinking beer.
"He just attended like everybody else who wanted to listen to Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) leaders who addressed the rally. Since the rally was a stone's throw away from the drinking joints, he attended drinking alcohol which is not something that is strange among those who frequent Area W bars. He behaved himself at first but surprisingly started throwing insults at Skelemani for no apparent reasons.
