Man gets 10-year jail term for rape

FRANCISTOWN: A man was on Tuesday sentenced to 10 years in jail for raping an elderly woman and causing another elderly one grevious bodily harm.

Chief Magistrate Lorraine Makati-Lesang condemned Tsame Ditshotlo, who has previous conviction to the sentence despite his pleas of innocence.

Ditshotlo's convictions go back to 1987 when he was sentenced to 12 months for stock theft. At the time, his name was different. He was known as Tsame Ditshodi. Two years later and using his present name, he was sentenced to nine months for unlawful wounding but six of the months were suspended for two years as long as he did not commit the same offence. In 1990 at Matsitama, Ditshotlo was given two lashes by the village's customary court for assault.
