Man fails bail, identity unknown

FRANCISTOWN: A 46 year-old man has been denied bail because the prosecution has doubts that he is a Motswana, as he claims to be. Fortune Caiphus is in custody after allegedly stealing from a Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC) house.

He is said to have stolen property amounting to around P8,000 from a BHC house. He appeared briefly before Senior Magistrate, Peggy Madandume for arraignment yesterday.

State prosecutor, Sesafeleng Dijeng said that the prosecution still has to confirm whether the accused is a Motswana."We are applying that the accused person be remanded because as for now we are not sure where he stays or if he is even a citizen of this country," she said.
