Man dies amid car breakdown scene

A 26-year-old man died after he was hit from behind by a speeding car while pushing a broken-down vehicle with two other men on Saturday morning near Tsholofelo Hall in Broadhurst, Gaborone.

Doctors certified the young man dead on arrival at the Extension II Clinic. The deceased’s two companions escaped the accident uninjured. Divisional Traffic Officer for South Central, Assistant Commissioner, Reginald Matlhaba said the accident occurred at around 5am.

“We have since arrested the driver of the car that hit him, a 30-year-old man who was driving under the influence of alcohol. We have charged the driver with causing death with careless driving,” he said. Matlhaba added the driver is likely to appear before the Broadhurst Magistrate's Court today (Monday).
