Man convicted of girlfriend's murder

LOBATSE: A 33-year-old man has been convicted of murdering his girlfriend in a jealous rage. Mosimanegape Batoko of Kanngwe village in the Southern District yesterday pleaded guilty to murdering his girlfriend Galaletsang Simane in December 2005.

Simane met her death after Batoko became suspicious that she was seeing other men. The incident is said to have happened during the period when 'passion killings' murders were seemingly escalating in the country.

The facts of the case are that in December 2005, Batoko confronted Simane with allegations that she was cheating on him with a man employed as an Agricultural demonstrator in the village. It was revealed in court that Simane confirmed these allegations and stressed that she used to date Kenneth Matheakgomo, but had since
decided to terminate their relationship.
