A 33-year-old man was recently arrested after he was allegedly found in possession of six sachets containing substances suspected to be dagga.

The arrest was made by the police at the Dibete barrier gate during a search that led to the discovery of sachets wrapped in a plastic inside the man’s luggage bag.

Dibete Police Station commander, Superintendent Meshack Ranku said the suspect-who is Gakhibane native of Kgosing ward-was a passenger in a bus that was travelling from Gaborone to Serowe.

Ranku stated that the substance is estimated to weigh three kilogrammes and will soon be taken for weighing and analysis while investigations into the matter are ongoing.

“The suspect, who is currently in police custody for investigations, will soon appear before the Mahalapye Magistrate’s Court for arraignment. Drug use remains a concern as we continue to arrest people in possession of illicit substances like dagga, cocaine, methcathinone to mention but a few,” Ranku said. “This is disturbing because it shows that despite our efforts, some people continue to trade in illicit substances.”
