Mamela slams expenditure on Khama luxuries

FRANCISTOWN: The Botswana Congress Party (BCP) parliamentary candidate for Francistown South, Vain Mamela has criticised the massive spending by the government on luxuries for President Ian Khama.

He said this is not fair because many national developments suffer as a result. Mamela was speaking at the BCP rally in Block Five last Sunday. "Our national resources are not used wisely for the benefit of the masses but only to enrich the elite few. We know that Khama ordered the P300 million presidential jet and the P2 million caravan. This money must instead be used to develop the nation for the benefit of the people and for national developments," he asserted.

The former MP pointed out that money should be used for important things such as increasing the monthly old age pension to P750 per head. He said in South Africa with a population of 48 million, old age pension is estimated at R1,050. "Why is it difficult for the same to be done locally with a population of 1.7 million people?" he asked.
