Malesu to address Pkikwe CO-OP members

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dorcas Makgato-Malesu is expected to address members of Selebi-Phikwe Co-operative Society this week.

Co-op Chairperson, Tebogo Venson told The Monitor last week that the meeting will be held on Thursday at Anne Adams Park. He explained that they have not been informed of the agenda of the meeting. He, however, noted that they have always updated the minister on the state of affairs of the co-operative society through the director of co-operatives.

Malesu's address comes at a time when the society is debt-ridden and was forced to close their retail businesses. The debt surfaced after an audit was done and it was discovered that the society owed P2.5 million to Eureka Wholesalers, The Botswana Power Corporation (BPC), Welcome Cash & Carry and the Botswana Revenue Services (BURS), amongst others. The society was ordered to devise a payment plan with creditors towards clearing all debts and to also retrench staff.
