Malawi-Zambia links go sour

LUSAKA: The diplomatic spat between Zambia and Malawi over an apology that Zambia is demanding took a further turn when the government of Malawi said its estranged vice-president, Joyce Banda, is free to return and denied media reports that she would be arrested and charged with treason upon arrival from Lusaka.

Banda flew into Zambia, where she attended the country's 47th anniversary of independence last week - apparently at the invitation of the governing Patriotic Front (PF) of president Michael Sata.

She arrived on October 23 on what was said to be a "private visit".
