Makoni move gets mixed reactions in Gabs

The intention by former SADC executive secretary and cabinet minister Simba Makoni to stand against President Robert Mugabe in the March 29 elections has attracted mixed reactions from some Zimbabweans resident in Gaborone.

The Zimbabweans are part of the three million people said to be outside the country.
Chances of Zimbabweans in the Diaspora getting a postal or external vote are non-existent, but their input in the politics of the country has a big bearing on the opinion of those who are at home and ready to vote next month.

In Gaborone, where a lot of Zimbabweans have found solace in doing 'piece jobs' as a way of ducking the 80 percent unemployment back home have been largely unimpressed by the sudden announcement by Makoni to lock horns with Mugabe. A survey in and around Gaborone turned up mixed reactions from those interviewed.
