Makgato-Malesu urges women to empower themselves

Minister of Trade and Industry Dorcas Makgato-Malesu has urged women to stop defining themselves as women, but rather as "human beings with competencies and vision" in order to get ahead in the corporate world. She said defining themselves as women first, disables and dis-empowers women.

Makgato-Malesu was speaking yesterday at the University of Botswana Library Auditorium during the first Women's Dialogue session organised by Vanity - a business and lifestyle magazine.

The minister added that it is important for women to make their own money to be empowered because "you cannot divorce your economic power from your ability to be empowered," she said.
