Mahalapye police have launched a murder probe following a fight between lovers which led to death.

Mahalapye Police Station Commander, Superintendent Omphile Malemenyane said a 54-year-old Mahalapye man has been arrested in connection with the murder of his 41-year-old girlfriend.

Malemenyane said the duo got into a misunderstanding that lead to a serious quarrel Saturday night shortly after they arrived home from the bar on suspicions of cheating.

“Our preliminary investigations have established that the deceased was suspecting that her partner was cheating, something that caused a misunderstanding that lead to a serious fight. When tussling, the assailant allegedly stabbed the victim with a sharp object under her left breast. She was rushed to Mahalapye Hospital where she was certified dead by doctors on arrival,” he said.

Malemenyane said the murder incident occurred at the duo’s rented house in Mowana ward, Mahalapye.
