Magistrate orders re-arrest of murder suspect

FRANCISTOWN: A magistrate has issued a warrant of arrest for a 35-year old man accused of murdering the child of his live-in lover after he failed to appear for a hearing.

Onneile Ntwayapelo issued the warrant yesterday against Mokganedi Pontsho who is jointly charged with his lover, Kgomotso Mondela, 35, for allegedly killing eight-year old Tumelo Mondela, between October 14 and December 1, 2012 at Senganeng cattle post near Tonota. After the killing, the state says the two chopped him body into pieces and buried him in a shallow grave in order to conceal the crime.

Police Inspector Paul Chaluza applied for a warrant of arrest for Pontsho for failure to attend a scheduled court mention. Pontsho was granted bail by Mpho Molema who is the substantive magistrate in the matter.Chaluza said Pontsho knew the date of his next mention very well and has not furnished the prosecution with reasons why he should be excused from attending court. He said by failing to appear in court when needed, Pontsho has blatantly violated one of his bail conditions, hence he can never be trusted to wait for trial if he is not in custody.
