Magistrate finds lawyer's witness hostile

Village Chief Magistrate, Lot Moroka, on Wednesday declared Steven Baputaki a hostile witness after he testified against the state. Baputaki was testifying in the case in which Francistown based lawyer, Lyndon Mothusi, is accused of corrupting prison warder, Akofang Moasetso.

Last week, another witness, Bachaile Sekoto, was also declared a hostile witness following an application by state prosecutor, Kgosietsile Ngakaagae. Mothusi has been slapped with another charge of fabricating evidence in the case in which he has been convicted of conspiracy to commit fraud, obtaining by false pretences and money laundering.

"You are a liar," said Moroka, adding that it would be a tragedy if the country's criminal justice system made rulings based on false statements made by witnesses.
