Magama condemns presidential retirement homes

The MP for Gaborone South, Akanyang Magama has condemned the practice of building retirement mansions for former presidents.

Contributing to the debate in parliament this week on the Appropriation Bill for the Office of the President, Magama said he has serious reservations about 'the continuous building of multi million Pula retirement homes for the ex-presidents'. He said the former presidents should be paid their pensions and then go back to their villages. 

Magama also called for the enactment of the necessary legislation to free institutions like the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) and the Ombudsman from the control of the Office of the President.
