Mabeleapodi 93-year-old man commits suicide

A 93-year-old man of Mabeleapodi has committed suicide by hanging at Thotshana Lands which is located on the outskirts of the village.

The old man was found hanging from a tree in his yard at the lands by his 34-year-old grandson who had followed after him when he failed to return home the previous night.

Serowe Police Station commander, Superintendent Poloko Oteng said the deceased had left home last Tuesday morning but did not return home as expected. Oteng said on Wednesday morning, old man’s 86-year-old wife got worried and asked their grandson to follow after him at the lands where on arrival he found his grandfather hanging from the tree and reported the matter to the police.

“He used a rope to hang himself and did not leave any suicide note. However, investigations into the matter are ongoing to establish what could have influenced his actions. The deceased was certified dead at Sekgoma Memorial Hospital,” Oteng explained.
