A serious dispute is brewing between the Law Society of Botswana (LSB) and some prominent lawyers in the country.

The lawyers are not happy with the decision by LSB to bar 30 law firms from practising for failure to regularise with the society. Some of them have hit back at the LSB in a press statement released yesterday.

The lawyers say they were deeply shocked and disturbed by the publication of the names of their firms for failure to regularise. "We are wondering whose interests the Law Society of Botswana is serving. Prior to this publication, we had not received any communication from the Law Society of Botswana, either formal or informal concerning the contents of the publication," the lawyers say. The lawyers say they are currently meeting to consider the way forward. The statement was signed by Mack and Bahuma from Mack Bahuma Attorneys, Anna Motlhagodi of Motlhagodi and Company, Shaboyo Motsamai of Motsamai Attorneys, Isaac Seloko practising as Isaac Seloko Attorneys, Patricia Corentin of M.C. Legal Practice, Obolokile Sekga of Senamela Sekga Attorneys and Situ Chilume practising as Situ T. Chilume Attorneys.
