Low pay blamed for poor nursing care

Thandie Kgosietsile was speaking at the launch of a two-day workshop for the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Botswana held at Thapama Hotel yesterday (Tuesday). The workshop was aimed at enhancing professional code of conduct, identifying the nurses/midwives' weaknesses and finding solutions.
Noting her concern about unprofessional conduct, she said it was disheartening to even imagine the attitude that some nurses/midwives display toward their patients. "I am ashamed to mention that ugly behaviour such as sexual misconduct, unpalatable language to the patients and improper handling of the patients, are what characterises nursing today," Kgosietsile said. She asserted that nowadays nurses also exhibit "amputated" dresses, which reveal more flesh to the patients, which is "disgusting and unprofessional".
