It was a day of contrast in Lobatse on Saturday as the leading political parties submitted names of their presidential candidates for the October 16 general elections at the High Court.

For the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), the submission of President Ian Khama's name was characterised by great pomp and ceremony as two Seabelo buses ferried staunch supporters glad in party colours for the occasion. The BDP faithful jammed the High Court, for the submission of Khama's name, with 1,800 forms though the law requires only 1,000.

The BDP followers ended the day with lunch, sponsored by the party, and more celebrations continued at Lobatse parliamentary candidate Moggie Mbaakanyi's house later in the day.
