Look out for saboteurs - BMWU chief

SOWA: Botswana Mine Workers Union (BMWU) Secretary General Jack Tlhagale has accused some elements within the union of "sowing seeds of disunity" that threaten to derail what the union has achieved so far.

Speaking during the Labour Day commemorations in Sowa Town on Tuesday, Tlhagale said there were visible symptoms of attempts by some National Executive Committee (NEC) members allegedly working secretly with some branch leaders to sow seeds of disunity within the BMWU.

Tlhagale cautioned members to be vigilant against any potential divisive moves by people with mercenary intentions. He said there was a growing tendency by "some elected comrades" to indulge in a strange friendship with members of management, which was raising suspicion. "History has demonstrated that those who claim to be representatives of the people but lean more on the employer's side than their members are, in fact, charlatans and this self-serving behaviour should be strongly condemned."
