Lionjanga clears the jungle of corruption on appeal

It was all smiles for Lionjangas family yesterday at the Lobatse High Court after Justice Singh Walia set aside his conviction and its jail term for corruption. The court found that the state had failed to prove Lionjangas defence false beyond reasonable doubt.

The former Executive Chairman of the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Board (PPADB) was convicted on a single count of corruption by the Village Magistrates Court early this year.

He was sentenced to a three-year jail term wholly suspended for two years for participating in a number of PPADB meetings that assessed a tender bid by Eastgate Enterprises in which his sister, Alice Makgekgenene, and nephew, Kagiso Makgekgenene, were directors.
