Students at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology have boycotted classes because the Ministry of Education has not paid their allowances.

The Student Representative Council (SRC) secretary general, Aldo Motsemme said it is evident from previous communication with the ministry and the university that there are discrepancies in the information pertaining to their allowances. He said the students feel the issue has taken too long to resolve. The students resumed their studies two weeks ago. Motsemme said ministry officials have said they are still waiting for confirmation of registration from Limkokwing. However, the ministry has paid the allowances of some continuing students but left out others.  Motsemme said the university management told them at a meeting on Monday that they are still working on the list of registered students and the process is slow because they do not want to make mistakes.

"They told us that the ministry has demanded a list of confirmed students who registered which they are still working on. Their list has always been rejected because of the mix-up in identity numbers," he said. He said the ministry has assured them that they will only be paid after Limkokwing has forwarded the list of registered students.
