Lies put man in trouble

The Village Chief Magistrate, Lot Moroka sentenced a man to three years in prison for lying to a person employed in the public service.

Olebogeng Tshweneyame was given a wholly suspended sentence on condition that he does not commit the same offence during the period. However, Moroka was not impressed by the lack of remorse from Tshweneyame during the trial in which he pleaded not guilty.

The court heard that Tshweneyame approached the Department of Road Transport and Safety (DTRS) and claimed that he had lost his driving licence and a Passenger Service vehicle (PSV) licence and needed duplicates.  However, it emerged that he had sold his PSV licence to one Moses Kgosiyang. It is said that Kgosiyang who had long been admiring Combi drivers finally achieved his dream of joining them when he was sold the licence for which he paid in installments.  The court was told that Kgosiang then removed Tshweneyame's photos from the licence and implanted his own. However, he did not remove the names.
