University of Botswana (UB) lecturer Lebohang Letsie and woman activist has declined a call to serve as an additional member of the newly elected Botswana National Front (BNF) central committee.

Earlier during the week there were reports that Letsie, a member of the BNF electoral board, had accepted party president Otsweletse Moupo's gesture, appointing her to the party central organ.
"What I can say is that I have not accepted the appointment, " she said in Gaborone yesterday.  Insiders have claim that Letsie was never approached about her appointment to take up a seat on the party's highest body. Further reports allege that Letsie only learnt about the issue in the local newspapers before she was approached.
"This is an internal party matter, which I cannot discuss with you but I can confirm that I have not accepted the appointment as reported," said Letsie.
She further told Mmegi that a press release on the issue would be issued soon.
Letsie is not the only one who had turned down the BNF advances, Attorney Duma Boko who is also BNF president's professional shepherd as the president of the Law Society of Botswana is said to have turned down the BNF proposal. In an earlier interview with this newspaper, it was reported that the BNF had approached Boko to contest in Gaborone Central under the party ticket.
In an interview with Mmegi yesterday, Boko not in so many words said he has not accepted the offer. He did not want to delve into details
Meanwhile, former BNF secretary for public education, Dr Elmon Tafa, who lost to Olebile Gaborone in the race to capture the vice presidency of the party, said his lobby group is yet to issue a statement to the BNF central committee after they performed an audit on the elections exercise.
Tafa would not say much except to promise that their statement would be issued very soon.
It is, however, doubtful whether the statement would have any effect on the elections. According to the BNF constitution, protests can only be entertained within a time-frame of 14 days.
The Letshabo group have been telling anyone who cares to listen that their loss was engineered at the party office where they allege that new identity cards were made with just one purpose in mind-to win the elections.
