Let's have congress - BNF Boteti North

FRANCISTOWN: Boteti North constituency of the Botswana National Front (BNF) has written to the party secretary general Mohammad Khan, asking the central committee (CC) to convene a national congress instead of a conference this month.

Boteti North constituency held a general meeting on June 14 at Mopipi and resolved to request the CC to call a congress. The constituency says the BNF constitution creates the national congress and stipulates its intervals. "In terms of clause 11.8 the national congress shall be convened by the central committee and be held once every three years.

"The clause is worded in mandatory terms. The central committee is obliged once every three years to convene and cause the congress to be held. There is no dispute that the last ordinary national congress was held in 2005. Since it is not a national congress, the special congress does not deal with matters reserved for the national congress as spelt in the constitution," reads the correspondence to Khan.
