Lesenepole and Matolwane fight over village name

LESENEPOLE/MATOLWANE: The failure to agree on one name in order to access government services has pit the communities of Lesenepole and Matolwane against each other for over 10 years with no end in sight.

During this 10-year period this war over the disputed village name has been before the courts and at some stage the legal counsel for Lesenepole recused himself from the case while some people refused to participate in the process.

The bone of contention is that both communities believe the new village should be given their respective name.Kgosi Thebe Monyepele of Lesenepole feels that Lesenepole is the rightful name for the village. He maintains that his village settled in the area first as evidenced by the fact that Kgosi Kebuamotse Pipedi, whose remains have been reburied in a recent ceremony, was the sixth in the chieftaincy lineage, but died in 1965.
