Lesedi Primary School has come to the aid of an ailing teacher who has been diagnosed with Lupus. Lupus is a disease that damages internal organs. The teacher, Sheila Setlogetswe Ramaabya went to South Africa last year for medical attention following a heart, kidney and lung failure. She was in a coma for two months - accumulating a medical bill of R409,000.

A Lesedi Primary School teacher, Boitseo Tebogo told Mmegi that they have raised P3, 000 for the medical bill. She said the school has effected a culture of helping others, with the aim of teaching their pupils that people do not live in isolation. She said they wanted to impart to the pupils that learning should not be confined to the classrooms only but extends to the society they live in.
Tebogo explained that once they learnt about the ailing teacher, they discussed with other teachers and brought the pupils on board. "We took it as an emergency and were able to raise the money in about three weeks," she said.
This is not the first time the school has been compassionate. Tebogo explained that they raised P20,000 for the late Boipelo Malete (who died after undergoing a complicated kidney and liver transplant operation). He said as a school, they have not only come to the aid of the ailing but those in dire need.
The Masisi Organ Foundation has also stepped in to assist Ramaabya. Ntetleng Masisi said yesterday that they would attempt to raise funds for her treatment. She said they had referred her to a doctor in Gaborone to check her health status. She said there is a need to curb the speed at which the disease is spreading through her body.
Ramaabya has been battling to raise funds for 10 percent of her medical bills. She has failed to go back to South Africa for a check-up and she is currently on peritoneal dialysis.
An account has been opened for Ramaabya at FNB. The account number is 62134279224 and the branch number 284567.
