Leadership changes looming at BCP congress?

FRANCISTOWN: The Botswana Congress Party (BCP) is reportedly set to bring changes in its top leadership though Dumelang Saleshando's position as president is safe.

Ahead of the party congress billed for Selebi-Phikwe during the President's Day holidays, it is said that the secretary general, Dr Kesitegile Gobotswang has overwhelming backing in the contest for the position of deputy president.Party members, through their constituencies, usually nominate those who contest BCP central committee elections. The majority of the constituencies reportedly want Gobotswang to be Saleshando's deputy, a position currently held by Ephraim Setshwaelo. Publicity secretary, Taolo Lucas is in line to regain his position as secretary general. Dithapelo Keorapetse is likely to become publicity secretary.

The constituencies have also nominated Motsei Rapelana and James Olesitse for the position of party chairman alongside the incumbent Batisani Maswibilili who is alleged to be  opting out of the race. Ernest Mpofu is expected to take over from attorney Morgan Moseki as secretary for international affairs. Moseki has reportedly been nominated for the position of secretary for legal affairs to succeed Annah Mothagodi who is expected to become deputy secretary general. The organising secretary, Vain Mamela has been nominated to defend his seat against former youth wing leader, Lotty Manyepetsa.
