"I do not see it as any of their business in criticising policies like privatisation. Even though they have unionised, they are still public servants and are guided by statutes and regulations that they have to comply with," Nkate said. He asserted that he does not have difficulty with teachers' organisations unionising. But he added that since the organisations unionised, he has realised that their leaders have become very outspoken.
He challenged the leaders to take the ministry to task on education matters and the welfare of teachers and not to meddle in issues that do not concern them. Nkate explained that his ministry has a problem with teachers, especially headmasters who value their union roles than their jobs. "We have employed them to run the schools not to run the unions," the minister said
