Lawyers contest case charged with sexual innuendo

The lawyers defending five soldiers and two special constables charged with indecent assault of Zimbabwean citizens made a submission of no case to answer when the case resumed this week.

The accused persons are Samuel Seshabo, Pako Tlhabaki, Thato Bojosi, Moagi Samson and Kodziba Balopi, all soldiers, and special constables, Sidney Ntope and Phetogo Ganakobo. They are represented by Gaborone attorneys Busang Manewe, Tshiamo Rantao, Oduetse Langwane and Batsho Nthoi.

They have pleaded not guilty to all charges. On count one, the state alleges that they unlawfully and indecently assaulted a Zimbabwean man and a woman, by forcing them to undress and remain naked. They allegedly tried to coerce the two to have sexual intercourse as they watched.
