Lawyer gets P130,000 for wrongful arrest

FRANCISTOWN: The High Court has awarded Francistown attorney Mboni Manyothwane, P130, 000 for wrongful arrest and detention by the police.

The lawyer sued the state after the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crimes (DCEC) officers arrested him saying he was interfering with their investigations.

He demanded 250,000 for wrongful arrest and detention and P15,000 for loss of business. However, Justice Moses Chinhengo gave him P130,000 only. The judge said that it has often been said in many cases that all arrests are prima facie illegal apart from being repulsive.
