Law Society to scrutinise Motswaledi judgment

The Law Society is yet to form an opinion on the recent judgment passed by a three-man panel of judges in the case in which suspended Secretary General of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) Gomolemo Motswaledi sued Party President Ian Khama over his suspension.

The judges held that Khama could not be sued because as State President, he is protected from suits for actions he carries out in his official and private capacity, and dismissed the case with costs.

The outcome of the case means that Motswaledi will not stand as a parliamentary candidate in the general elections under the BDP ticket in Gaborone Central where he spent the past two years campaigning.
