Late funding delays council projects - Mojuta

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Mayor, Amogelang Mojuta has implored ministries to disburse funds timeously to avoid situations where the council is forced to suspend some of its activities due to lack of funds.

Addressing a full council meeting recently, Mojuta said when the financial year started, the council was advised by the Ministry of Local Government to proceed with projects and draw funds from the recurrent account to pay for capital projects since the disbursement of funds from the ministry was delayed.

"When the ministry started releasing the funds it meant they had to be redirected to reimburse the recurrent account as it was also running dry. It became apparent that the rate of disbursement by the ministry could not catch up with the rate of expenditure by capital projects and this called for council to continue withdrawing funds from the recurrent account to pay for capital projects," said Mojuta.
