Land dispute looming between Gabane and Mogoditshane

A border village war is looming between Mogoditshane and Gabane after Gabane residents accused the Mogoditshane sub-land board of ceding their land to Mogoditshane.

Speaking at a kgotla meeting yesterday in Gabane the residents complained that Gabane land such as Nkoyaphiri, Mogoditshane Block 7, Lesiriane and Lesetlhaneng has unlawfully been incorporated into Mogoditshane.

They argued that the Surveys and Mapping Department's Gabane map clearly shows boundary lines that demarcate the land in question as belonging to Gabane and not Mogoditshane. Kgosi Seeletso Pule told residents that last year October a meeting they had with an assistant district commissioner on this thorny issue in Mogoditshane did not bear fruit: "... because though at the meeting with Mogoditshane chieftaincy that our claims were justified nothing has been done to correct what we think is a serious error" .The chief said that they have noticed that land board officers ignore the boundary lines in the official map and regard Gabane land in Nkoyaphiri, Mogoditshane Block 7, Lesiriane and Lesetlhaneng as part of Mogoditshane.
