The effectiveness of Gaborone Fire Station has been severely compromised because of lack of vital equipment and low staff morale. The station has no ambulance and operates with two old and unreliable fire engines.

Reports say that currently, the station has borrowed an unequipped ambulance from a Gaborone hospital.   It is alleged that a number of senior positions at the station have remained vacant for more than a year. Two positions for deputy chief fire officers, three for leading firemen and one for fireman grade one are yet to be filled.

Some frustrated staff have accused the head of the fire station Tladi Pilane of incompetence.  They blame him for excluding management from important decisions and changes. Pilane is alleged to make budgets and promotions without the input of the relevant officials.
