SELEBI-PHIKWE: The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) retained the Mmadinare South East ward with relative ease after warding off a tame challenge from the opposition.

It was largely expected that the BDP would retain the ward during the weekend by-election, but the entrance of both the Botswana National Front (BNF) and the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) has changed the political landscape in the ruling party stronghold.

Some might argue that the BNF came out of the by-election with its image severely battered, after a measely 13 people cast their votes for the beleaguered main opposition.
