More and more countries around the world now regard the arts as a viable means of employment and wealth creation. So has Botswana, which has a law that protects the rights of individuals in the creative arts. This week, Mmegi correspondent JERRY KAI-LEWIS talked to Phillip Drouin, Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Gaborone, about Intellectual Property Rights, which cover the arts.

Mmegi: Please tell us a bit about yourself?

Drouin: I have been the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of the United States of America in Botswana since July 2006. I have spent much of my diplomatic career specialising in and fascinated by the challenges and opportunities facing sub-Saharan Africa where I have travelled extensively.
