Knives Out For Kgari

MOLEPOLOLE: Ngwanaamotho Kgosientsho Masilo said on Saturday that he is taking over as Bakwena paramount chief because the incumbent Kgari Sechele is no longer interested in the post. At a meeting in Ntloedibe Ward, he accused Kgari of playing around with the chieftainship by giving in to his enemies.

He said he 'collapsed' at a recent Kgotla meeting addressed by the Minister of Local Government Margaret Nasha where Kgari declared that he had chosen Keineetse Sebele as his deputy. "I was only woken up at the end of the meeting when people had dispersed.  I collapsed again when I went to meet Nasha at Parliament buildings and woke up in hospital," he said. He said that Kgari should have appointed Jayson Sechele or Moiteelasilo Sechele as his deputy. The choice of Bakwena deputy paramount chief has divided the tribe and pitted Kgari against his mother.

Kgosientsho said that he fought very hard to have Kgari enthroned but now he has gone back to enemies who opposed his succession. "Pelo yame e botlhoko," he said.  He stated that he and the late Gagoumakwe (Kgari's grandmother) tried to advise Kgari on the bogosi but he (Kgari) was defiant and preferred to do things his way.  He added that Gagoumakwe even made it clear that Kgari's leadership will never know peace and that the rightful heirs will claim their throne if he is not careful. He said that Ntloedibe Ward hosts the main Kgotla in the village and Kgari's great grandparents knew it.  He explained that the Sechele family (where Kgari comes from) were just given regency because some of them were educated and able to speak English.
